Yes, and all of our staff are fully vaccinated. Our guidance comes from the Philadelphia Health Department, OCDEL (Office of Child Development & Early Learning), DHS, the scientific community, and parent input. Currently, all of our staff wear masks and parents and visitors are also required to wear masks in our facility. This section was updated on 12/28/2021
There are benefits to getting connected with your local school. However, there's a huge maturity and attention range between kids at this age that an online teacher may not be able to see or address with differentiated instruction. Some children may do well in an online setting. Some children will need the relationship and attention of an in-person teacher. You know your child best. We're happy to walk through ideas for your child. Our Kindergarten is licensed by the PA Department of Education. (So, this is a real Kindergarten).
We have an actual small class of not more than 15 students, (not just a ratio of 30 students with 2 teachers). Smaller classes allow for us to differentiate our instruction to reach those that need more help, and challenge those who are already ahead.
KO12 Kids also learn about and get to practice relationships with others. We emphasize the importance and value of being a good person. We teach and model how to interact with others, individually and collectively, with the goal of instilling the value of being a contributing member of their community, as well as a love for learning.
We don't have contracts. We prefer to be here for when you need us and for you to stay because you love our program. If you enroll in Auto-Pay you only pay for your actual attendance, which is billed in the beginning of each month for the month prior. Our attendance system will automatically calculate how many days your children were with us.
Yes. The sibling discount is split equally if the children attend the same days. If one child only attends on camp days then that child will receive the full attendance discount for both children on the days attended. If there are ever any questions or discrepancies, just let us know and we'll fix it. (It's a lot to keep up and we're human).
You will never be required to pay for services that you do not receive, except in the case of a non-refundable deposit (we currently only require this for Summer Camp). With that said, we will do everything in our power to legally remain open. At the height of the pandemic we obtained a state waiver during the last shutdown and served families of essential workers and we credited or refunded the families who stopped attending mid-month. We did not charge anyone who did not attend. This policy is one of our core values.
The After School program has been a part of our school since the very beginning of Kids On 12th. We have a walking pick-up from four neighborhood schools: McCall, ICS, Greenfield, and FACTS. We also accept students who can be dropped off by a parent or caregiver. Parents pick up students at our school by 6:15pm.
We help Afterschool kids with homework when they first arrive. Playtime consists of free play with other kids in our large play area (and/or outside, if weather permits). Afterschool staff may also lead structured games or activities but we never require that students participate (but they usually want to) because everyone is different and we know there is value in unstructured play and free time (that often involves using their imagination and having social interaction). If a student wants to have quiet time, they are also welcome to use our Library where they can sit and read a book or play a board game.
Computers, tablets, and electronic games are not allowed, except at the end of the day, after most kids have left (usually between 5:30pm and 6:15pm) or if needed to complete homework.
We are so excited to be moving into a new and much larger space right around the corner. We'll have 6 individual classrooms and a play space. It's all currently under construction with a completion deadline of September 18th. Our plan is to be in by October 1, 2020 if all the stars align! (And we believe they will). In the meantime, we've been doing regular zoom meeting tours to keep you posted on the progress. We also take questions and post the recordings on our Facebook page. We'll be announcing our next one soon!
Our new address will be 1112-28 Chestnut Street. In addition to the added space, you'll have access our adjacent free 30 minute parking and car service for drop-off an pick-up.
